Dear Sir/Madam,

I am delighted to share with you the news that we have just opened the registration for the 10th edition of CLS Summer School on the topic of Gender-based Violence and Human Rights. We believe that it is your students, lecturers and other colleagues who might be especially interested in this opportunity and so we kindly ask you to share with them the following information.

CLS Summer School 2025: Gender-based Violence and Human Rights will take place traditionally in a beautiful chalet in the Czech Giant Mountains National Park from 8th to 17th August 2025

During this 10-day course, participants will be part of a diverse group of students and professionals from various countries and fields, all sharing a common interest in human rights, as well as the prevention and response to gender-based violence.

As part of the academic program, we will explore:

Law: The development of international human rights conventions and what they offer survivors today. We will examine how courts assess cases of rape and other forms of violence and critically analyze both the benefits and limitations of human rights and their relation to criminal law.

Justice: We will discuss how the understanding of gender-based violence has shifted from legal issues to a broader critique of social structures. Our focus will be on the conditions under which survivors perceive criminal proceedings as just, as well as the specific barriers marginalized groups—such as people with migration experiences—face in accessing justice.

Survivors' Experiences: In practice-oriented workshops, we will address trauma and its impacts, learn the basics of crisis intervention and appropriate communication strategies for engaging with survivors.

All these themes will be presented by experts from diverse disciplines, providing invaluable perspectives on the topic. Our keynote speaker for this year's program is JUDr. Kateřina Šimáčková, Ph.D., Judge at the European Court of Human Rights, formerly a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic (2013–2021) and the Supreme Administrative Court (2009–2013).

Patejdlova Bouda offers not only an inspiring setting for discussions and new friendships but also a space for relaxation (bar, sauna, whirlpool, table tennis) and is an ideal starting point for hikes in the mountains and surrounding areas.

The fee is 490 € (12 250,- CZK) and includes accommodation, full board, and light refreshments throughout the day. The costs of organizing the academic program and study materials are covered by the organizing team with the help of sponsorship contributions. In justified cases, we are able to provide participants with at least partial financial assistance.

Application Deadline: 30th April 2025.
